- Odds and Ends -

A fun little "side project" we recently designed for Paul Stanley of KISS: His friend in Uruguay, who is the owner of the Yellow Rose Vinyards in Punta del Este produced a limited run of Pinot Noir wine for Paul’s personal Stanley Family Reserve for which we designed the label featuring one of Paul's paintings. It was packaged in a beautiful 3-bottle box and gifted to his friends.

About This Project

Shortly after we completed our first couple of book projects for Chronicle Books, we were approached and asked if we had other viable connections to top photographers and whether those could lead to future books. So, we suggested Ross Halfin and the concept of a ‘massive’ Metallica photo book. Once a deal was struck between the author and publisher, we began with the task of editing literally thousands of photos that were sent to us from the UK. They arrived in all shapes and sizes, as 35mm slides, prints, on CD-Rs, DVDs, and maybe even a Zip-drive! Knowing that such a photobook usually holds between 250-300 photos, the task of editing was needless to say enormous. One literally has to memorize the photos otherwise you simply have no overview and you might miss key shots. This process took about two months. We discussed the design direction and settled on a classy clean style. Let the photos speak for themselves, and let them be accompanied by single quotes from the four band members. With Ross’ guidance, I believe we did the title justice.

Metallica embarked on their massive ‘Deathmagnetic World Tour’ for which QPrime, their management, hired us to design the tour program. Since Ross had already been on tour with them for a while, he had thousands of great live photos and some really stylish studio shots.
