Billed as the ‘Mother of all Music Books,’ this project was truly unusual. Normally, we are involved from the initial planning stages but this idea came from a group of investors out of London who wanted to create a BIG and luxurious photo book. It measures precisely, 2 feet by 3 feet (60cm by 90cm), weighing about 30lbs.
The project was spearheaded by guitarist Tommy Thayer, who eventually hired us to design the ten different flag-covers and the interior signature page. The book contains live photographs from KISS’ four-decade career of performances in makeup and body armor amid their onstage pyrotechnics. Each volume of Monster is autographed by the band’s current members and is limited to 1,000 copies in each of 10 countries.
The book was custom printed by EBS Editoriale Bortolazzi Stei in Italy, with each individual copy being handmade with no machines involved in the finishing or binding of the book. This prestigious printer also prints the Pope’s bibles!
Luckily, we were also invited to the press conference in London the day the band announced the book.
